Our Charity

Gateshead District Scout Council (#Gateshead Scouts) is a charity registered in England with registration number 1015159. We are one of a set of federated charities which make up Scouting in the UK. We are an umbrella organisation for the scout groups in the district and are in turn part of Durham Scout County.

The Purpose of Scouting

Scouting exists to actively engage and support young people in their personal development, empowering them to make a positive contribution to society.

Aims and Objectives

The charitable objects of Gateshead Scouts are as follows:

“To promote the development of young people in achieving their full physical, intellectual, social and spiritual potentials as individuals, as responsible citizens and as members of their local, national and international communities”

As Scouts we are guided by these values:

Our Governance

Gateshead Scouts are governed by a trustee board (Executive Committee), formed in accordance with our constitution (below). Our trustees have oversight of all Scouting matters within the scout district and are accountable for ensuring compliance with charity law, and the Policy, Organisation and Rules of the Scout Association (POR).

Annual Reports and Accounts

Our submitted annual reports and accounts are available via the Charity Commission website.

HM King Charles III has been confirmed as our new Patron, a great honour for UK Scouts.

The King continues a long tradition of the monarch giving their Patronage, dating back to 1912. This was when Scouts was granted its Royal Charter and HM George V became our first Patron.
